My name is Joshua Gray and I am the owner of Gray's Academy. I was born and raised in
Tacoma, Washington with two siblings, an older and a younger brother. Growing up I played baseball, football, basketball, and track and field. I also played the drums in church as well as in bands/choirs at school. I graduated from Wilson High School in Tacoma, WA as a 3 year letter-man in
football and track and field in 2006.
Upon graduating high school, I walked on to the football team at Western Washington University where I eventually earned a starting spot as a strong safety. My original major coming into college was engineering, but after a couple of bad experiences in math and computer science (a class I should've never taken as a sophomore), I decided (with some help from my mom) to follow my passion for sports and graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in Phys. Ed with an exercise science concentration.
My first strength and conditioning opportunity post-college came in 2012, and
was training the Tacoma Shyne A.A.U. girls/boys basketball teams. I am forever grateful for
Diago Hunter giving me a chance, without knowing anything about me. I trained this team
for three years while also working at the airport to pay for my certifications.
From there, I became the head strength and conditioning coach at University of Puget
Sound where I trained 12 varsity teams, 2 club teams, and taught 6 semesters of PE to
staff and students. I stayed at University of Puget Sound for 4 years before moving on.
I have been a high school strength and conditioning coach for five years, an assistant
football coach for three years, and am entering my 7th year as a track and field coach. I have also been in the fitness industry for about ten years.
